FOR TEACHERS

How do I sign up to teach a lesson?

Its easy! Just click the "TEACH A LESSON" link at the top of the menu that appears on the left-hand side of most pages on WiseGrasshopper.com (you should be able to see it right now!). If it is your first lesson, you'll create an account on our registration form with your email, username and password, as well as some optional information. When you hit "Submit" at the bottom of the form, you will receive an email confirmation. Just click the link in the email to confirm you are a real person, and you'll be logged directly in to your account profile. At that point, just click the "Submit Listing" link to sign up to teach under the free, bronze, silver or gold membership level in the category/subcategory of your choice. If you sign up for gold, you can then enter up to 300 characters in a description field that allows you to describe your services. All other memberships are just a series of drop down menus or 'fill-in-the-blanks'. If we don't have the category/subcategory you want, you can suggest it for us and we may add it to our site for you if it is appropriate, otherwise we will categorize your listing for you and email you with the information. When you have all the details you want in your listing, click submit and we will review and approve for posting on WiseGrasshopper.com!

What does it cost to register as a teacher?

A basic listing is free. You can sign up for as many free listings as you want to, as long as they are for different lessons and/or in different locations. You can upgrade your listings to premium membership levels: bronze, silver or gold. Bronze membership listings cost $75 per year, get placement above all the free membership listings in your category, and get an additional optional field for phone number. Silver membership listings are placed above bronze and free listings, and in addition to your phone number, give you an optional field to list your personal website. Gold membership listings are placed at the top of searches and, in addition to the phone number and website fields, offer a space to enter up to 300 characters to describe your service in more detail. How do I find a specific lesson I want to teach?

You can either browse our categories and subcategories by clicking through the links on our homepage, or you can type a lesson into the search box.

I can't find the lesson I want to teach. Do you have it as an offering?

We try to be as comprehensive as possible in terms of our offerings. However, there are innumerable areas of self-improvement, and therefore we are always looking to add lesson categories to our list. If you have searched for your lesson by browsing the logical categories and subcategories, try the search box. If the lesson type can't be found, you will have an option to "Suggest new category/subcategory". This link will take you to a form you can submit with a suggestion for us. If we decide to add the category/subcategory you suggest, you will likely see it on our site within 5-10 business days. You will also receive an email when the new category/subcategory is up and you can register for it. Of course, you can also suggest a new category/subcategory while signing up to teach a lesson using the "submit listing" form in your account profile (if you are logged in).

I teach several different musical instruments...piano, guitar, harmonica, keyboard, and trombone. Can I sign up to teach more than one lesson on WiseGrasshopper?

Absolutely. You can sign up to teach as many free listings as you want, as long as they are in different subcategories, or in different locations. In other words, you can post to teach in the subcategory of harmonica, piano, guitar, and bass, but you can only post once in each.

Should I title my listing AAA guitar lessons so that I always come up first in your directory listings?

Our listings show up in randomized order on subcategory pages AND each time the page is refreshed. So that means that within your membership level, you have as good a chance as anyone else to show up first. Of course, gold memberships will show up above silver, which will show up above all the bronze listings, which will show up above all the free listings. Within each of those membership levels, however, all listings will be randomly ordered in each search.

How do I edit my account information? How do I edit my listings?

After you log in, you will see your Account Profile with a list of all of your listings. You can update your email and other information with the "Account Details" link. If you need to edit your listing's email as well, or any other information, click on the 'View/Edit' link next to your listing, and then 'Edit Listing'. When you're done, click on 'Submit Changes' once and only once. An email will be sent to your old address confirming your changes and the revised version should appear in a day or two.

How long will my listing stay on your site?

As WiseGrasshopper is a directory and not a classifieds website, you can be assured that your listing will stay available for a full year, with no need to repost. At the end of the year, you will receive notice that your listing will soon expire, and have a chance to renew it at whatever level of membership you would like. That being said, please be sure to keep your listing updated as your contact information changes, and remove it if you are no longer teaching the lesson.

How do I remove my lesson from WiseGrasshopper?

After you log in, select/click on the ad in your profile page that you want to delete. If will go to that lesson, and can delete it from there.

What is your refund policy?

Sorry, there are no refunds.

FOR STUDENTS

How do I find a specific lesson I'm looking for?

You can either browse our categories and subcategories by clicking through the links on our homepage, or you can type in the type of lesson you want into our search box on the front page.

I can't find the lesson I'm looking for. Do you have it as an offering?

How can I trust that I'm getting a good teacher when I find someone on WiseGrasshopper?

WiseGrasshopper only acts as a conduit of information, not a source of recommendations. As much as we would like to validate the skills of each of our instructors, there is no feasible way to do so. Therefore, we give background information on what the lesson is about, and good questions to ask your potential instructor when you email them yourself, so that you have a better idea of what the instructor offers and whether they're qualified. If you still feel your instructor is not qualified, please report your concerns with us at info@wisegrasshopper.com, or click on the "report spam or abuse" link on the instructor's listing. All WiseGrasshopper asks is that you be honest and have integrity should you choose to do so. In addition, WiseGrasshopper offers a review system where users of WiseGrasshopper can leave a text review of their lesson with a particular instructor.

Why would I choose a teacher that has a premium membership as opposed to those that have the basic membership?

Premium members pay for certain benefits on WiseGrasshopper that make their listing show up more clearly to students looking for lessons. Paying for this service may imply a certain extra legitimacy to an instructor and their credentials. Once again, WiseGrasshopper makes no recommendations or endorsements of teachers, but rather serves solely as a conduit of information, so it is still wise to read over the questions you should ask your potential instructor, ask for references, and discuss with the person their experience and expertise before you begin lessons with them.

GENERAL INFO

I love WiseGrasshopper. What makes you guys so awesome, and how can I help?

Please, flattery will get you everywhere...we're just a couple of guys living on a wing and a prayer.

But really, I've posted my ad to teach a lesson, and I would like to help you promote your site here locally so that I can get more students. How can I help?

Oh! Is that what you meant? In that case, we are more than happy to help you help us help you. Just send us an email at info@wisegrasshopper.com. We've got flyers, t-shirts, and all sorts of shwag to help spread the word to your friends and neighbors.

WiseGrasshopper is not available in my town. Do you have plans to start servicing our area, and if so, when?

The vision of WiseGrasshopper is to go global. We hope to launch a site for every geographic area eventually. As far as when it may happen, if there is particularly strong demand in one town, we will certainly focus our energies there, so feel free to let us know where you are and that you want WiseGrasshopper! We love that kind of feedback anyway.

"Green" and "Sustainability" are big buzzwords these days. What is WiseGrasshopper doing to minimize its environmental footprint?

Very glad you asked. WiseGrasshopper was founded by two gentlemen with backgrounds in environmental work, and the company is committed to reducing its carbon footprint as much as possible. We use a web hosting service that is completely powered by clean, renewable energy. We sometimes give preferential advertising space in our banner listings to environmental causes, either for a reduced rate, or free of charge. If you have an environmental business or non-profit and would like to explore this option, email us at info@wisegrasshopper.com. We recycle all paper used in our office, and when we're not out surfing, our workdays are frequently fueled by organic, fair-trade, shade grown coffee.
